The Voxtropolis Experiment

Some Mosaic folks got together and started a Blogging community called "Voxtropolis." Can a planned electronic community work? The experiment seems worthwhile, so I signed up for a Blog there and rather to my surprise was admitted.

The entry point is here: Voxtropolis Cafe.

My Blog is here: Long Haul Christian.

There are all kinds of people there. It'll be interesting to see how it develops.

I'm unsure of my long-term participation there. The "Long Haul Christian" idea is one I've been thinking about for a couple of years--How does God turn ordinary people into people who will follow Jesus for the rest of their lives?--but the name "longhaul.blogspot.com" was taken. It was a natural follow-on to "Last Exit." I may not be a permanent fit with Voxtropolis, though, and the whole thing may fold. Blogger has a demonstrated commitment to keeping things going, and I think there's benefit in just having the one Blog for everything.

There are a lot of church people on Voxtropolis, and as church people do, they talk a lot about "should." As soon as that word shows up, life goes out the window. I don't believe in "should."

Comments:
I think the most interesting aspect of Voxtropolis is that its ability (thus far) to be a *community.* My other blog is red almost exclusivly by people i interact with regularly in real life. Where as most of the comments I get on my vox blog are from people I don't know.

I'm guessing that few people there are first time bloggers. Some have relocated their blogs. Some are simply mirroring content. Others Post a different set of content there. Then there are people like me who mirror most of the content on my *real* blog, and post a few things just to my vox blog. I do, however, agree that I think there's a benefit in just having one Blog for everything and am trying to reconsile that thought with having two places I'm publishing content.
